Wine Critic: “Flavor is well balanced and not too sweet. The melon aroma help highlight its strengths. Likely holds well but best served young.” - N.A. (Nov. 30, 2016)
Our Dog Blue won a platinum award at the 2015 San Diego International Wine Competition, where all the judges gave the wine a gold medal. It also scored highly in the Winemakers Challenge International Wine Competition and the Critics Challenge International Wine Competition.
Wine Folly: From "Wine Folly: Magnum Edition: The Master Guide" by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, it is noted on page 368 that Riesling grapes are very versatile. It can come very dry or very sweet. It is noted that this type of grape pairs well with spicy foods. It is also noted that apricot is a dominant aroma and contributes to the high acidity that comes from this type of blend.
My Thoughts: Today I am drinking a white wine from Chateau Morrisette, located in Virginia, USA. Our Dog Blue is a Riesling-Traminette blend and is served young; this bottle is from the 2022 vintage year. It sports an untraditional blue bottle. First impressions: incredible. I did not have high expectations going into this bottle but I have been blown away by how well it goes down. It is very light and new flavors come up with each sip. I can almost taste apple even though that is not one of the noted aromas. I served it chilled by putting the bottle in the fridge for half an hour. For the price, it is a value purchase.
I made tuna tartare and takoyaki to pair with this wine. It is a very light bodied wine so I decided to pair it with heavier seafood options. The battered octopus and the carbs from the bread of the tartare offered a good contrast to the wine. The citric and sweet flavors complimented the seafood fabulously.
I give it an 82/100.
