Tasting - Prosecco Rose by LaMarca
Name: Prosecco Rose by LaMarca
Variety: Glera
Region: Prosecco
Country: Italy
Price: $7
Wine Critic: “Butter and papaya nose. Medium bubbles, off dry, light acidity. Starts with strawberry and passion fruit evolving yeast and butter finishing sweet.” - R.M. (Apr. 1, 2021)
Wine Folly: From "Wine Folly: Magnum Edition: The Master Guide" by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, it is noted on page 361 that Glera grapes are dry and medium high acidic. It is noted that this type of grape pairs well with cured meats and spicy Asian foods. Dominant aromas include green apple, honeydew, and pear.
My Thoughts: Today I opening a split bottle of Prosecco Rose. The presentation is very nice and the 187ml bottle poured just over a glass of wine. Initial swirl yielded strawberry and flower aromas. The first sip was quite nice; it had a dry and crisp finish and no unpleasant notes. I taste grapefruit and huckleberry. It is pretty acidic but had a medium body. I was disappointed in the bubbles though — no real structure or formation in the bubbles. It might as well be served flat. That said, it is still very refreshing.
I give it an 78/100.
