Wine Critic: “A distinct salinity seasons the floral pear richness in this chenin, the alcohol imbuing the wine with energy. It feels healthy and vivacious, with threads of flavors bound up in a cord. It's fun to try to unravel those threads—orchid bloom, candied lemon, beeswax richness—and while there is sweetness, the energy overpowers it, making it barely perceptible by the finish.” - Wine & Spirits (92 points)
Wine Folly: From "Wine Folly: Magnum Edition: The Master Guide" by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, it is noted on page 241 that Chenin Blanc grapes are very versatile. It can come very dry or very sweet. It is high in acidity and is mainly grown in South Africa and France. It is also noted that Asian pear and citrus are dominant aromas.
My Thoughts: Another wine from my visit to the Vintage Cellar. This is my first time trying a Chenin Blanc varietal wine and I think it was alright. Smell wise, I couldn’t really note any aromas. It just smelled like alcohol (and not in a good way, more like pure ethanol). I could not get the citrus or pear aromas no matter how hard I tried. It is a bottle from 2020 so the price on this wine is not bad at all. The finish was short but crisp. The taste is much better than the smell. It is too sugary for me so I will not be adding this one to my personal collection. I can see why people would like this wine though.
I give it a 73/100.
