Tasting - Pinot Grigio by Voga Italia
Name: Pinot Grigio by Voga Italia
Variety: Pinot Grigio
Region: delle Venezie
Country: Italy
Price: $14
Wine Critic: “Very delicate, apple and pear, as it warms a bit you get notes of banana, vanilla and minerals. Very pleasant and surprisingly complex.” - M.M. (June. 13, 2019)
Wine Folly: From "Wine Folly: Magnum Edition: The Master Guide" by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, it is noted on page 348 that Pinot Grigio grapes are very zesty with a medium-high acidity. It can come very dry or very sweet. It is noted that this type of grape pairs well with white meat, seafood, and fruits. It is also noted that white peach, lemon zest, and cantaloupes are dominant aromas for this varietal.
My Thoughts: Today I am drinking Pinot Grigio from Voga Italia, located in northern Italy. This bottle is from the 2021 vintage year. It sports an untraditional water-bottle-like design. First impressions: subtle. I do not taste many flavors; in fact, I think it is very muted. I could almost drink this bottle like water as I do not really feel the alcohol content either. However, I forgot to chill this bottle so perhaps serving this cold would change the flavor profile. I smell green apple, pear, lemon zest, and banana. Overall, I am a little disappointed but I will chill this bottle and try again later. Hopefully, flavors will change.
Edit: Flavors did not really change. I think this bottle is meant to be a more subtle wine.
I give it a 70/100.
