Wine Critic: “Raspberry and tart fruit aroma. Nice juicy in-your-face flavor. Big and well rounded flavor with some earth and pepper on the back end. Tannins sort of hit you on the mid to lower cheek, very front of the mouth, well mannered.” - L.S. (Jan. 30, 2022)
Wine Folly: From "Wine Folly: Magnum Edition: The Master Guide" by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, it is noted on page 382 that Sauvignon Blanc grapes are very acidic with herbacious flavors. It is typically medium dry. It is noted that this type of grape pairs well with herbal flavors, cheeses, and Asian food. Typical aromas include gooseberry, honeydew, and grapefruit.
My Thoughts: Today I am drinking a Sauvignon Blanc from Napa Valley, located in California, USA. I have never tried Sauvignon Blanc from California so I am excited to try it out. The California terroir should mean the grapes are a bit more alcoholic and less acidic as the weather is warm year-round. First impressions: well-balanced. Just as expected, it is not as acidic as French Sauvignon Blanc wines; however, this does not take away from the quality. It is medium dry and fairly light. Aromas include green apple, melon, and peach. I shared this bottle with a friend who smelled citrus aromas. It was served cold without decanting. I think it is a decent bottle, it is refreshing and smooth.
My friend invited me to try some Soondubu Jjigae (순두부찌개), which is a Korean silken tofu stew. I decided to try this wine as Wine Folly recommended Asian food with Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was crisp and the high acidity helped cut through the umami flavors of the beef-bone broth base. The wine both compliments and contrasts the wine as I highly enjoyed sipping the wine after a bit of rice. The dry nature of this wine helped ensure it did not clash with the flavors of the dish. Both the wine and the meal were delicious and I enjoyed this wine pairing.
I give it a 76/100.
