Tasting - Tabali Pedregoso Gran Reserva Viognier 2022
Name: Tabali Pedregoso Gran Reserva Viognier 2022
Variety: Viognier
Region: Limarí Valley
Country: Chile
Price: $15
Wine Critic: "This viognier would be ideal for a dumpling menu. Rich in floral notes and tropical fruit flavors, the texture is creamy, with deep fruit flavors rich in acidity, but with a charming sweetness at the same time." - 90/100, Patricio Tapia - Descorchados
Wine Folly: From "Wine Folly: Magnum Edition: The Master Guide" by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, it is noted on page 427 that Viognier grapes are very rich and oily. It is medium sweetness with low acidity. It is noted that this type of grape pairs well with “almonds, citrus, stewed fruits, and aromatic herbs.” (427). It is also noted that peach, tangerine, and mango are dominant aromas.
My Thoughts: I am drinking another white wine from Limarí Valley, located in Chile. I’ve had the Sauvignon Blanc wine from this region and it wasn’t bad. This bottle is from the 2022 vintage year. Unlike the Tabali reds, this does not have the volcanic terroir. First impressions: delicious. This viognier is clean and sharp. It has a steely nose of peach and minerals. It is very aromatic. I really enjoyed this one! I don’t have much experience with Viognier wines so this was a great drink. I think this wine is a good value purchase and I will be trying other wines from Tabali.
I went to the free wine tasting at the Wine Cellar for this tasting!
I give it an 81/100.
