Tasting - Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Name: Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Variety: Sauvignon Blanc
Region: Marlborough
Country: New Zealand
Price: $18

Wine Critic: “Aromas of passion fruit, sliced mangoes, fresh pineapple and thyme. Medium-bodied. Bright and tangy acidity, but has a flat finish.” - James Suckling, 89

Wine Folly: From "Wine Folly: Magnum Edition: The Master Guide" by Madeline Puckette and Justin Hammack, it is noted on page 382 that Riesling grapes are very acidic. It typically has low sweetness and an herbaceous taste. It is noted that this type of grape pairs well with herbaceous foods and asian cuisine. Dominant aromas include gooseberry, honeydew, and grapefruit.

My Thoughts: Today I am drinking Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. I’ve had many bottles of whites from New Zealand and Australia so I knew the bottle was going to be decent and fruit forward. This bottle is from the 2022 vintage year and sports an elegant and timeless design. First impressions: delicious. This wine is very unique from any other bottles I have tried. I am impressed with the grapefruit aroma and taste. It is very fruit forward and strong. It has a great structure and has a crisp mouth feel. This bottle is very well structured and the acidity is the perfect amount. The finish is long and clean. Noted aromas includes grapefruit, lemongrass, passionfruit, and kiwi. It is more expensive than a daily drinker but I will definitely be adding this to my list of bottles to try again.

I give it a 90/100.
